Hello there, I'm Ben.

Thank you for visiting my site! I am a recent Computer Science graduate from Lancaster University with a natural curiosity and eclectic range of interests: from machine learning and robotics to embedded systems and IoT technology. Beyond my technical interests, I am a venturous individual who enjoys organising hiking expeditions and camping trips in the Lake District. I decided to make this website to portray my skills and versatility more clearly and practically, while sharing my projects to those who are interested.

Skills & Interests

My interests lie within a plethora of diverse fields—I find everything so interesting! To narrow this down I have selected a short list of faculties to exhibit my thoughts and potential.

Hobbies & Recreational Interests

This section is a simple array of recreational activities I regularly enjoy and why I find them interesting.

Hiking

Hiking brings you back to the simplicities of life: sensational scenery, fresh air, exertion, and most importantly, essential introspection. Take a look at my Wainwright's Challenge progress for an insight into my adventures.

Wild Camping

My attraction to camping was brought about by a desire to walk further and for longer—with a tent I can transform my excursions into expeditions! At night, the universe reveals its canopy of glistening stars, and in the morning, the sun blooms golden warm petals.

Reading

Reading stimulates the mind and forces you to challenge your perspective of various disciplines. You face diverse angles on controversial situations that inspire empathy and create discomfort, offering opportunity to understand.

Electronic Tinkering

Electronics opens up an entire realm of innovative possibilities. Starting with simple hardwired logic and state machines to microcontrollers and processors that run software to allow intelligent responses to inputs—remote sensing and robotics.

Cooking / Baking

Controlling what you eat is very important to improve both mental and physical health. A diverse and flourishing microbiome in the gut can alter vagus nerve signalling to the brain and make you happy! Besides, it's a fun activity to do with family and friends.

Gardening

I like to think that if I hadn’t been a computer scientist, I would have become a botanist instead. Biology is fascinating and mycobacterium vaccae in soil stimulates serotonin production. Why wouldn’t you garden?!
